There was joy and celebration to the family of the late former President of Tanzania John Pombe Magufuli when the current President Samia Suluhu Hassan handed over the keys of the newly constructed house to widow Mama Janeth Magufuli.
The newly constructed house which is located in Kinondoni district in Dar es Salaam region, has been constructed by the Government in accordance with the law.

The Government has built the house in accordance with the Political Service Retirement Benefits Act, 1999, as amended in 2005.
The law provides that when the former President dies, his widow or widower shall be granted by an appropriate authority- (a) survivor’s pension of the sum equal 40% of the salary of the incumbent President.

Other benefits include. A house which the deceased spouse was granted by the President, a monthly maintenance allowance through his life of the sum equal 40% of the salary of the incumbent President, a medical treatment within the United Republic borne by the Government and the service of one motor vehicle to be provided by the Government ownership of which shall revert to the spouse on expiry of three years.

Others include Payment of the amount of money sufficient to pay salaries at the rate of the Government employees’ minimum wages in respect of (a) a driver; (b) a domestic servant, Transport to a place of living for the rest of his life and a burial expense.
John Pombe Joseph Magufuli was the fifth president of Tanzania, serving from 2015 until his death in 2021. He served as Minister of Works, Transport and Communications from 2000 to 2005 and 2010 to 2015 and was chairman of the Southern African Development Community from 2019 to 2020
