{"id":9145,"date":"2024-06-07T13:09:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-07T13:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eastafricangazette.com\/?p=9145"},"modified":"2024-06-07T13:09:01","modified_gmt":"2024-06-07T13:09:01","slug":"police-clarifies-on-robbers-in-trending-robbery-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eastafricangazette.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/07\/police-clarifies-on-robbers-in-trending-robbery-video\/","title":{"rendered":"Police clarifies on robbers in trending robbery video"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By eastafrican gazette<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Kampala Metropolitan Police has clarified that the individuals seen in a CCTV footage circulating on social media in connection to a robbery at a road junction are currently in custody at Luzira Prison.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The police also explained that the video, which gained attention on various social media platform on June 6, 2024, captures a robbery occurrence that took place in 2022 at the Buganda Road Y-junction near City Oil on Bombo Road<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the statement released by the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the group of thugs targeted an engineer who was carrying 30 million UGX in his bag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlthough the victim managed to escape, the suspects successfully seized the money. Our investigations identified the perpetrators as Abdullamani Bakata alias Pancho, Emmanuel Nsubuga, Augustine Wanandya, and Ivan Muwanda,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stressed that the group was also connected to another violent robbery involving Dawit Kasa, a diplomat from the Ethiopian Embassy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident occurred on February 25, 2022, along Prince Charles Avenue in Kololo. The assailants robbed Mr. Kasa of 2.8 million UGX and a laptop, leaving him unconscious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response to these criminal activities, Owoyesigyire noted that the Kampala Metropolitan Police, in collaboration with the Flying Squad, conducted several operations leading to the apprehension of the suspects and the recovery of multiple items, including motorcycles, 20 mobile phones, ATM cards, and identification documents from various victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said during an operation in Kisenyi, one gang member, identified as Alipanda, was neutralized, and the suspects are now on remand at Luzira Prison, awaiting trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the Kampala Metropolitan Police remains vigilant and proactive in the fight against crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany of the videos circulating on social media related to these incidents are outdated and have been effectively addressed by our law enforcement actions,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To further ensure public safety, police have intensified street patrols and enhanced surveillance capabilities with advanced CCTV systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They urged the public to stay calm and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By eastafrican gazette The Kampala Metropolitan Police has clarified that the individuals seen in a CCTV footage circulating on social media in connection to a robbery at a road junction are currently in custody at Luzira Prison.
