Bundibugyo
The National Unity Platform (NUP) today Monday, July 15, 2024, resumed its mobilization tours with a drive in Bundibugyo, where NUP party President Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, called upon the youth to stand up and fight for their country.
He said youth of Bundibugyo should look at what is happening in neighboring Kenya and borrow a leaf from the courage exhibited by Kenyan Generation Z in the recent protests against President William Ruto’s government.

“Do you see what is happening in Kenya? We have over time told you that people power are stronger than people in power. You, the people of Bundibugyo, can save Uganda. If you want to know what to do, look at Kenya. You can do it because he (President Museveni) cannot kill us all,” he said.
He further urged the youth not to wait for politicians to tell them what to do, saying that if they rise up in large numbers, they can oust President Museveni.
The NUP party president said the people of Bundibugyo voted for him as their president and that he has since returned the power to them.
“The last time I was here, I asked you to entrust me with power, which you did by voting for me to be your president. I am here to tell you that I returned that power to you,” he added.

Early NUP leadership were blocked from addressing Bundibugyo people on a radio station or making any radio announcements and mobilization drives and also blocked them from accessing Booma Grounds a venue which Kyagulanyi said they had booked and paid but instead the authority claimed that the venue was given out to another person
According to Bobi wine said although all roads from other sub-counties to the town center were closed, and people were being ordered not to proceed to our office, saying despite all this intimidation, our people were able to courageously turn up to listen to our message, which I briefly delivered outside our office.
“ I told our people that the only way we shall end this humiliation and impunity in our own country, is by responding to the call of duty and RISING UP” Kyagulanyi
Bobi’s remarks come amidst preparations for the March to Parliament protest slated for next week on July 23. The protest was first heard following the anti-finance bill protests in Kenya.
However, police on Monday cautioned Ugandans against participating in the protests, which they say are unlawful. Police spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma said they have received information about ‘ongoing mobilization efforts on social media calling for people to march to parliament’.
“The Uganda Police Force is issuing a clear warning against attempts to incite violence or breach public order through uncontrolled demonstrations.
The right to a peaceful protest will be respected, but police will not tolerate attempts to incite public disorder,” ACP Rusoke said on Monday at a press briefing
