The UPDF leadership has expressed its determination in ensuring that its rank and file officers secure descent accommodation.
The assurance was made by the UPDF deputy commander land forces Maj. Gen. Francis Takirwa last week while officially commissioning a total of 52 housing units for the 507 Brigade headquarters in the 5th infantry division in Pader district
The colorful ceremony was witnessed by key stakeholders within the region and district respectively.
Maj. Gen. Takirwa thanked the project contractors for doing a good job and on time saying the units shall exclusively cover the accommodation needs for the Brigade commander as well as housing for other ranked officers and a health Centre 111 respectively.
He expressed gratitude to the UPDF leadership for their support in the construction works in the 5 Infantry Division and appreciated the engineering regiment for delivering quality work.
Brig Gen Keith Katungi, the 5 Infantry Division Commander, reassured the visiting boss with his entourage that the new facilities would be maintained and put to proper use however he pointed out that some of the construction works were funded from savings from the main project, including the Division guest house.
The housing units commissioned are part of the efforts by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces to address the welfare, especially in providing accommodation for its rank and file.
Brigade Commanders and Division staff officers were in attendance at the event.
