FOCUS ON STI THE UGANDA COUNTRY PERSPECTIVE
The minister of science technology and innovation (STI) Dr. Monica Masanza Musenero has opened Uganda Climate Technology Summit 2024 with a call on stakeholders to support government efforts in fostering the development of the sector for the good of both the country and the international community.

The summit held at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel was organized by the STI ministry partnership with Legacy capital, open capital, platform 01 among others with the aim of examining various financing mechanisms and investment opportunities that can support climate innovation in Africa.
The summit under the theme ‘Uganda’s vision for climate innovation’ brought together the global sector academia, industry leaders and innovators to shape the future of climate technology investment on the African continent was also aimed at discussing the roles of carbon credits, green bonds, alternative financing, blended finance and venture capital in de-risking and funding climate projects.
The summit which attracted over 100 delegates from several countries around the world was also set to foster collaborations among global leaders in technology, Biomimicry and science, aiming to create a sustainable framework for climate innovation in Uganda and Africa.
The likely overview of the summit would explore cutting –edge climate tech solutions, strategies for environmental sustainability, and pathways for economic growth through science and technology.

Topics for discussion include; climate innovation; Uganda’s strategic framework for sustainable engagement among others which shall highlight the country’s position towards the STI development agenda.
The meeting is expected to challenge Ugandan scientists to Network with global industry sector players in order to build effective capacities and capabilities to develop its local content portfolio.
The summit also shall look at strategic thematic areas such as the possibility to co-develop a clear roadmap to advance climate innovation in Uganda, focusing on 4 priority areas including Nurturing climate-focused startups and SMEs and exploring the role of research and development (R&D) in driving innovation.
