In a departure from his previous stance on immigration, the former President Donald Trump of the United States, has put forth a proposal to grant green cards to all foreign nationals who successfully complete their studies at American universities.
This suggestion contradicts his previous efforts to restrict both legal and illegal immigration during his tenure and sharply contrasts with his controversial anti-immigrant rhetoric during his campaign.
He noted that this should also apply to junior colleges.
“Whether you complete a two-year or four-year program, if you obtain a degree or a doctorate from a college, you should have the opportunity to remain in this country,” he noted.
During a podcast featuring notable tech venture capitalists David Sacks and Chamath Palihapitiya, President Trump shared his thoughts.
The podcast also included investor Jason Calacanis, who asked the former president if he would provide more opportunities for talented individuals to immigrate to America.
In response, Trump assured that graduates would undergo a screening process to exclude individuals with affiliations to communism, radical Islamism, Hamas, anti-American sentiments, and those who burden the public financially.
Trump’s campaign spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, confirmed this stance.
Leavitt told CNN in a statmente that they were looking at retaining the highly skilled graduates who have undergone thorough vetting and can bring valuable contributions to the United States.
