The Police’s Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has issued a traffic management plan for the Uganda Martyrs celebration on June 3, 2024.
According to the directorate’s spokesperson, Michael Kananura announced that traffic management takes effect from 04:00PM of June 2, 2024 to 04:00PM June 3rd, 2024.
According to the advisory, Jinja-Kampala highway will be normal traffic flow, while Kireka to Kyaliwajjala road will be ONE WAY for vehicles heading to the venue from the time of effecting the diversions.
Kyaliwajala-Nalya interchange will also be ONE WAY towards Naalya interchange allowing people to exit from Namugongo, Kyaliwajjala Trading Center to the Basilica/Catholic Church will be pedestrian walk way and all pedestrians will keep to the right; while the left will be reserved for VVIPS and emergency vehicles.
Stickers
Kananura noted that appropriate stickers should be clearly displayed on the wind screen to avoid unnecessary delays.
He said VIPs with vehicles bearing appropriate stickers will be allowed to access their parking space at the Basilica/Catholic Church and Protestant Church, VIPs to the Basilica/Catholic Church with cars bearing RED STICKERS will access Namugongo through Kyaliwajjala via Ssemambo road and park at Namugongo Boarding Primary School as will be guided by Traffic Police, while VVIPS and VIPS with vehicles to the Protestant Church will access the venue through Bweyogerere – Butto – Kyobe road and park at the Protestant Church farm.
He stressed that foreign pilgrims to the Basilica/Catholic Church with vehicles bearing BLUE STICKERS will be dropped off at kyaliwajjala trading center and vehicles will park at Vienna college school.
All medical service vehicles will bear GREEN STICKERS and these should be clearly displayed for ease of identification, while service providers for the Basilica/Catholic Church bearing PURPLE STICKERS will access the venue through St. Kizito Lwanga Road at Namugongo Police Station entrance.
Kananura noted that these are advised to be at the venue in good time starting from midnight of 3rdJune 2024.
“NO MORE service vehicles will be allowed to access the venue after midnight,” he warned.
Pilgrims to MAMRE NTERNATIONAL PRAYER CENTER will access the venue through Bweyogerere – Butto-Kyobe road and park as shall be directed by traffic police while pilgrims from Northern bypass will park at Hillside Nursery and Primary School.
The pilgrims from Ntinda, Kiwatule, Najjera, and Kasangati are advised to park at Kiira Town Council play ground and Kiira Municipal Council Mayor’s garden, while those Eastern route to Protestant Church will access their venue through Seeta, Sonde, Bweyogerere Butto Kyobe road and park at church farm.
Kananura said there will be regulated at Naalya round about, Kireka trading center, Bweyogerere Trading Centre, Seeta Trading Center, Agenda 2000, Namugongo-Butto-Kyobe road, Namugongo-Ssemambo road and Kyaliwajjala Trading Center.
“Motor vehicles and motor cycles without appropriate stickers will not be allowed beyond the cut off points,” he added.
He stressed that there will be no parking for the general public both at the Basilica/ Catholic Church and Protestant/Anglican Church.
All taxi stages at Kyaliwajjala Trading Center, Sonde road, Namugongo road, Naalya will have been prohibited for the period the Traffic Management Plan takes effect.
“Any taxi found at the stage will be impounded and driver will be penalized. Vehicles abandoned along the designated routes will be towed at the owner’s cost,” he added.
The police advises all motorists to respect the guidelines given by Traffic Police and act positively to avoid unnecessary delays and inconveniences.
