The authorities in Kampala have apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in a violent attack and robbery against a man named Tomson Mugisha, aged 40.

A surveillance video captured the moment when a man with a backpack was ambushed by a gang of criminals who trailed him while walking innocently.

During the assault, one of the perpetrators kicked him in the neck, causing him to collapse on the ground while another snatched his bag and fled with the rest of the group.

The distressing incident took place on Ben Kiwakuka Street at around 8pm on May 22nd, 2024, with onlookers unable to intervene.

Additionally, a boda boda rider who stopped to witness the scene was also struck forcefully by one of the criminals before managing to escape.

The deputy Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Luke Owoyegyire, noted that the police have confirmed the theft of Uganda shs450,000/=, a bag with crucial documents, keys, and a container from the victim.

“The Kampala Metropolitan Police wishes to inform the public about an ongoing investigation following a disturbing incident captured on CCTV. The footage, which has been circulating on social media, shows a man identified as Mugisha Tomson, 40 years old and a resident of Kyebando, being assaulted by unidentified assailants,” he noted.

He emphasized that the Central Police Station in Kampala has initiated investigations into this incident, leading to the identification of two suspects who are currently cooperating with the ongoing inquiries.

“We are actively working to trace and apprehend all individuals involved and ensure they are brought to justice,” he noted.

Owoyesigyire emphasized the importance of the public being alert and aware of their environment.

“If you witness any suspicious activities, please do not hesitate to make an alarm or notify the police immediately. Public cooperation is essential in preventing such incidents and ensuring community safety,” he added.
