The Namirembe Diocese Mothers Union community has expressed their admiration and gratitude towards their counterparts in the South Ankole diocese for successfully implementing strategic economic empowerment projects that have greatly uplifted numerous households in the fight against poverty.
This was during the conclusion of a three-day benchmarking trip undertaken by a delegation of 40 members from the Namirembe Diocese Mothers Union to visit their counterparts in the South Ankole diocese, located in Ntungamo district, on May 20, 2024.
The purpose of this trip, hosted by the President of the South Ankole Mothers Union, Rita Byomuhumuza, was to provide the visiting women with an opportunity to learn about the strategic project initiated by Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe on behalf of the Diocese.
The project, implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries [MAAIF], has received funding support from the Uganda Intergovernmental fiscal transfers reform program [UgIFT] and the Micro scale irrigation development program under the World Bank.

The project provides women beneficiary communities with the opportunity to gain free on-farm technology skills and knowledge transfer, which they can then utilize to generate wealth on their own household land.
This includes large scale plantations of coffee, banana, and fish ponds, among other agricultural activities.
Additionally, the delegation acquired new skills in art and crafts, and learned how to create reusable sanitary towels for girls, among other valuable knowledge.
Bishop Ahimbisibwe, extended his congratulations to the team for successfully strengthening networking ties with the women in his community.

He emphasized that the visit played a crucial role in facilitating the exchange of vital development and gospel information, which has the potential to transform their way of life and combat household poverty.
“Am excited to meet this delegation of strong Christian women led by the Namirembe diocese president of the Mothers Union Nalongo Biingi Roseline Kawiso because they brought with them key messages from the holy gospel, gifts as well as sharing with us new information that has effectively empowered my people leaving them both physically and mentally changed persons,” he noted.
