What really happened?
Dr. Eron, a founding lecturer at Kyambogo University, played a crucial role in the establishment of the university in 2003. He dedicated himself to advocating for disability rights in Uganda and successfully managed numerous projects in this field.
Having obtained a PhD from the University of Oslo in Norway, Dr. Eron earned a reputation as a highly respected senior lecture and also served as the dean of the Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation, where he spearheaded the development and implementation of the Institutional Disability Policy for Kyambogo University.
However, it is deeply troubling to contemplate what led him to commit such a heinous act of abusing a vulnerable young girl.
The unfortunate incident unfolded when Dr. Eron, in his capacity as the coordinator of the “All we see is possibility” project, accompanied four students to Nairobi, Kenya for a conference last year.
Upon their return, he safely dropped off three of the students at their respective destinations. Shockingly, it is alleged that he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old female O-level student with visual impairment.
Police investigations implicated him in the incident. He was taken into custody and subsequently granted a bond, which he absconded on December 14, 2023 – a day following the approval of his case file for aggravated defilement while being HIV positive and in a position of authority over the victim, contravening sections 129(3), 4(b), (c), and (d) of the Penal Code Act.
At Kyambogo, the investigative committee also carried out an independent probe from November 13, 2023 to January 19, 2024, and determined that Dr. Eron was responsible for severe misconduct involving sexual harassment, actions or oversights that tarnish the reputation and standing of the university, and are unprofessional or unethical.
