Armed with a hammer and a machete, Ashraf Kiiza, whose appearance exuded a sense of menace, boldly made his way into the office of his former employer at Bashir Mill Investments in Nateete, Rubaga Division, with the clear intention of robbing the place.
Having been a former employee at the same company, his fellow employees, paid less attention to him, unaware of his true motives.
As he entered the office, Kiiza found Sam Turyamuhaki in the cash office in the midst of counting money.
Kiiza then proceeded to demand money, but Turyamuhaki, displaying remarkable courage, firmly declined and instead confronted Kiiza in self-defence.
Patrick Onyango, the spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, reported that Turyamuhaki suffered injuries to his head and right hand during the scuffle.
After the incident, Kiiza allegedly fled to his parents’ residence in Rakai District, where he was subsequently apprehended by the police.
Onyango stated that the suspect was arrested based on a viral social media video that depicted his alleged attempt to murder Turyamuhaki.
The incident took place on Monday, May 12, 2024.
Kiiza is now facing charges of attempted murder.
Onyango also advised individuals to exercise caution when carrying large sums of money without proper security measures, as it may attract criminal activity.
