Two children, one of whom was only two years old, tragically lost their lives in a devastating house fire in Mulanda B, Kisubi, Kajjansi along Entebbe Road.
The authorities are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, which was reported around 1am.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, revealed that the fire engulfed the home of Bakita Ayang, a South Sudanese national and despite the valiant efforts of community members to rescue the children, aged between 2 and 16, the flames were too fierce, resulting in the loss of their lives before they could be saved.
Upon receiving the distress call, officers from Kisubi Police Station, under the leadership of the Officer in Charge, swiftly responded to the scene along with firefighters from Entebbe Police Division.
After the fire was put out, the grim process of retrieving the bodies began.
Owoyesigyire mentioned that the children’s remains were respectfully recovered and taken to the city morgue for examination.
Initial findings suggest that the fire started from an unattended electric kettle in the living room, plugged into an outlet.
Authorities stated that additional investigations are being conducted to determine the details of the unfortunate event.
Owoyesiyire advised residents to be careful when using electrical devices at home.
