Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) Uganda has opposed the close of shops before meeting the president on 20 June 2024 at Kololo Independence grounds.
In their meeting held in Kampala on May 14 2024, they all agreed to first listen to the president before the cause of action as proposed by the president of Federation of Uganda Traders Association (FUTA), John Kabanda while addressing a press conference in Kampala recently.
During the conference Kabanda proposed June 17 2024 to be the date at which all traders should close their shops until the president’s meeting with them on June 20 2024.
According to the chairperson of KACITA, Thadeus Musoke Nagenda there is no need for cause of action before hearing from the president who himself asked for another meeting with traders.
“We should respect the president’s call for another meeting with traders since long lasting solutions can be achieved through negotiations other than using force’ he said.
He said KACITA must be involved in the national budget formulation to avoid misconception from traders who looked at it as the government’s tool to high taxes for them.
“KACITA as a stakeholder in the economic development of the country, should have a meeting with the ministry of Finance and Uganda Revenue Authority and have an input in the economic strategies of the country” he said.
He said traders are among the biggest revenue base and the backbone of the country’s economic whose input in the budget formulation is vital
