The Minister of Defense and Veterans affairs, Jacob Oboth-Oboth has hailed Manjasi High school old students’ idea of raising about shs 50 million for installation of a new water and sanitation system at the school.

Oboth – Oboth is an Old Student of Manjasi High school Tororo district in Eastern Uganda said the car-wash drive was good idea to raise funds that can improve the water and sanitation system of the school as it attracts more students.
Oboth made the remarks at the car wash drive at Methods lounge on May 11 2024 at Ntinda.
Manjasi High school was started as a technical school that promoted engineering, sports and science. The old students in Tororo district have come up with a car wash campaign to install a new piped water system for the entire school.
This car washing initiative is expected to raise about shs 50 million that will be used for the installation of piped water and water tanks.
“As government we cannot maintain all schools but if the old students can come out and support the school management to require facilities that will attract more students given that it is a mixed school,” Oboth said.
Many old students who went through this school are serving the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) in the engineering brigade.

He offered shs 3.3 million out of total cash collection of shs 11.5m for the day. He asked the school administration to make a budget that will be presented to the First Lady, Ministry of Education and Sports Janet Museveni.
The Major General Timothy Sabiiti Mutebile (Rtd) said they enjoyed being at the school and due to engineering, he went for military science and retired as Commander of the Engineering Brigade in the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF).
Major General (Rtd) Sabiiti, asked the old students to contribute to their school as feedback for the knowledge they are enjoying today as to bring back the fame and glory of their school.
He said because of engineering and science knowledge some students who never continued for further education and ended up as workers in the Uganda Railway Corporation and factories within Tororo.
The head teacher of the school, Sidialo David Wanyama who is also an old student said before Covid pandemic the school had 2080 students but the student population reduced to 200 thereafter. Wanyama said when girl students were introduced in the school to become mixed in 2002 the numbers started going up.

Wanyama said by close of the term, we registered a total of 760 students despite the many issues needed to be put right and with support of the old students it will shine even much better than before.
Wanyama noted old students have sustained the zeal of promoting their school and so far they have received a 10,000 liter water tank from Bishop Samuel Egesa of Bukedi diocese President of Manjasi High school Old Students Association, Samuel Olum said their school is too dilapidated and needs attention to attract more numbers and thanked the zeal of old students promoting their school.
“We are going to put in place modern facilities to compete with other schools around. .Our school was one of the traditional schools that
specialized in science; most of the alumni are Doctors and Engineers” Olum said.
He said they have already identified the problems of the school include connecting piped water to the tanks
The projects coordinator, John Ochwo said today the school is steadily improving with calmness and discipline among the students unlike
before.
Ochwo said besides the water and sanitation they have identified other school’s needs and plan to expand on the laboratories to put in modern
facilities.
