The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) intends to replace the illegal asbestos iron sheets that remain at Makerere College educational with the present-day iron sheets that are appropriate for a modern educational setting.
Eng. David Luyimbazi, KCCA Deputy Executive Director, said they are systematically replacing the roofings of all of their schools in phases each fiscal year, with Makerere College School being the ultimate benefactor starting this fiscal year 2024/25.

The KCCA Education Department oversees over 30 schools, and most of them continue to have illegal asbestos sheets on their classroom blocks.
The World Health Organization (WHO) condemned asbestos as hazardous and cancer-causing to humans.
He made the remarks while officiating at the Makerere College School annual music dance and drama inter house competitions at the Makerere university play grounds.

Luyimbazi noted that the effort to replace asbestos in all of their KCCA schools had been postponed due to budgetary difficulties.
Luyimbazi who is also an old boy of the school [1985-90] donated 20 computers towards the college IT department and pledged to purchase a music system to the MDD department as a deliberate strategy of boosting both music and IT departments which sectors are critical for the college’s development agenda.
The school’s head teacher, Martin Muyingo thanked Eng. Luyimbazi for the gesture of donating towards his former school, saying it should be emulated by other old boys and girls given that the college was at a critical moment seeking funds to implement their set projects and programs.

“We are humbled as a college for the noble donation made by one of our very own old boy Eng.Luyimbazi of 20 computers and a music system to support the development agenda of these two crucial departments,” Muyingo noted.
Dr. Milton Wabyona, a lecturer at the Makerere University music school who was the judge of the competitions declared Lumumba house as the overall champion 2024 followed closely by Kabalega with 950 points.

Others are Africa (933), Simba (931), Bikangaga (919) while Muteesa trailed with 903 points respectively.

Hundreds of parents and head teachers from friendly schools attended the day long thrilling music performance’s as displayed by the respective houses.
