As the Uganda Joins the World to celebrate World Press Freedom Day, Uganda Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng paid tributes to Journalists who were killed while fulfilling their duty to inform and enlighten the public
“Without freedom, the press is nothing and without a press, society is nothing” she noted
In Her massage Aceng writes “Today 3rd May 2024 is World Press Freedom Day and the globe celebrates the fundamental principles of press freedom, evaluating press freedom globally, defending the media from attacks on their independence. The theme for this year is “A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis.”
“I joined the rest of the world today to congratulate the young people in the Media sector who have sacrificed to give people information. The journalists should exercise their duties responsibly and avoid contradicting the truth. For the journalists to exercise and carry on with their duties, they need a violent free working environment, rights and freedom of expression.”
I also want to thank His Excellency the president of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM mighty party for providing enabling laws and environment for people of Uganda to enjoy freedom of press.
