The one month named Mukyala art Exhibition has been launched at Nommo Gallery in Nakasero Kampala
The art pieces that are to be showcased were designed and painted by three upcoming visual artists named Joan Namaggwa,Wamala Nyanzi and Axum Kigozi .

The ceremony to launch the one month exhibition that started on April, 26, 2024 is aimed at helping the three artistes market and promote their art works that they have been working on for a long time.
Namaggwa, one of the artists said the theme ‘Mukyala’ which literally means ‘Woman’ was inspired by the role of women they play in the family.

“Mukyala art exhibition is a multilayered visual discourse that opens up space to a powerful and necessary opportunity of challenging and reshaping traditional narratives surrounding womanhood. Through the lens of visual art, the exhibition invites viewers to engage in a multi- dimensional exploration of womanhood,” she said.
Nyanzi, another visual artist said the idea of holding a joint art exhibition was reached upon by the three artists because they wanted to use the opportunity to work together as a team.
Robert Musiitwa, the UNCC Public Relations officer, said the exhibition is a platform for three visual artistes to tell and share their stories.

“As UNCC, our job is to create avenue through which artists and creative artistes can promote their works and we call upon Ugandans to come and support these amazing young artists,” he said.
Paul Mugambe,the deputy Mayor of Nakawa Division who among the invited guests said that children should be allowed to study things that they love, not what their parents want.
“When you look at these young people, they seem to love what they are doing and it’s through passion that drives creativity at the workplaces. This idea of parents choosing careers for their children should stop because the world has changed a lot,” he added.
In appreciation of their works, he supported them with Uganda shs500,000/= and promised to lobby for the creative sector as a politician.

Phina Mugerwa, the deputy chairperson of the board of UNCC was the chief guest and used this opportunity to thank government for allowing artistes be part of the board of UNCC.
“It’s now our time to do what we wanted to do in the creative sector. We are going to lobby for the creative sector because arts and entertainment are a very effective tool in communication,” she noted.
