The combined security task force in Soroti is holding a security guard and his supervisor after a failed bank robbery at Equity Bank brank in Soroti City, in the Eastern Part of the country.
Though witnesses reported that unknown armed men had locked themselves inside the bank, a security search revealed nothing.
According to a statement published by police spokesperson Fred Enanga the incident occurred on April 23, 2024.
“On Tuesday, 23.04.2024, an attempt was made to rob Equity Bank in Soroti City. Our joint task team from the police and UPDF responded swiftly and staged at the bank,” he added.
According to police investigations, the suspects fled after failing to gain access to the banking hall.
“Our prior investigations indicate that the suspects escaped from the scene after failing to access the banking hall. No one was hurt, and no property or money was stolen,” he added.
Enanga said the two people including a security guard and his supervisor are being interrogated as part of investigations.
According to the bank’s administration, armed individuals attempted to gain admission to the banking hall, but were stopped by local authorities and security personnel.
“No property or lives were damaged or lost. Security agents led by local authorities are currently investigating the incident,” the statement read.
Enanga stated that the bank is now safe, operations have resumed, and the overall security situation in Soroti City is tranquil and calm.
