Uganda has once again been taken aback by another unexpected blow, following the untimely demise of another esteemed female veteran political activist and senior member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) opposition party, Sarah Eperu.
The FDC party conveyed the news of her passing through their official X handle on Twitter. “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our comrade and dedicated member of the party Hon. Sarah Eperu. Hon. Eperu served the party in various positions as the former Spokesperson of the Women’s League and, until her passing, as the Chairperson of the Kapir County Constituency Branch in Ngora District. Further details will be provided in due course as we honor her memory and contributions. May her soul rest in peace”.
She is said to have died at Life Link Hospital in Kyaliwajjala at around 9:00pm on April 8, 2024.
It is approximately three months since the party mourned the loss of another influential figure, Cecilia Ogwal, who previously served as the Dokolo Woman MP.
Eperu gained widespread recognition as the iron lady due to her unwavering bravery and frequent confrontations with law enforcement during numerous urban protests.
A particularly memorable incident occurred at Kampala Central Police Station, where she fearlessly defended herself by forcefully pushing down a policeman who had inappropriately touched her.
