The Vice President Jessica Alupo has urged the Muslims to remain peaceful during and after the Holy Month of Ramadan

The Vice President Alupo said she was grateful to be part of the congregation at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Headquarters (UMSC) during the Annual National Iftar Dinner on 3 April 2024.
Alupo said was grateful to Mufti Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje for inviting her to be part of the great humility saying “Ramadhan Kareem” to you all.
The Dinner was hosted under a theme “Peace Building, Empowerment and Human Rights”
She said when President Museveni was informed about the theme, he was very happy because this shows the determination and how resolve of the leadership of the UMSC to talk and live in peace and harmony. She conveyed President Museveni’s message of urging them to remain peaceful.

She said Uganda is a God-fearing country as vindicated by our Motto “For God and my country.”
She said Allah, the most merciful and most Gracious is the God of love and peace; and that is what he commands us all to be and Muslim are our brothers and sisters.
The NRM Government under the able leadership of President Museveni has ensured Security and Peace in every corner of Uganda.
She explained that in the spirit of Pan-Africanism, Uganda has extended brotherly support for security to other African Countries whenever need arises.
“Government wants to use all avenues to bring peace through inter-Religious Council of which UMSC is a member. All these efforts are intended to consolidate peace and freedom of assembly” she noted.

She said Ramadan is the 9th month of the Muslim calendar and it is the month in which it is believed that the Holy Quran was sent down from heaven “as divine guidance for men and women; a declaration of direction, and a means ofsalvation.”
“As you fast, it is time to reflect upon the importance of discipline, devotion, humility and sacrifice, to reaffirm the bonds that draw communities together” she said.
She said Ramadhan becomes an occasion to remember that Islam gave birth to a rich civilization of learning that has benefited humanity.
We should live by example and encourage all other Ugandans, most especially the employers to show empathy towards Muslim workers during the period of Ramadan, so that they fulfill this great Pillar of their faith, she added.
She told the congregation endeavor to see that divine practices do not stop at the end of this holy month, but continue to prevail as our norms always.
Government initiated the Inter Religious Council of Uganda and supports Unity and Peace of interfaith dialogue, as part of Freedom of Worship enshrined in our Constitution.

We appreciate seeing Muslims and Christians gathering in various fora to share and honor the holy month of Ramadan.
She congratulated the leadership of UMSC for the new constitution that has increased the membership of Women and Youth into the administration and management of Muslim affairs in Uganda.
Government funded the enormous exercise to collect people’s views and come up with such a historical document in the time of your leadership, she revealed.
The NRM Government will continue to partner with the Muslim leadership and community in development and household wealth creation.
“It is during the NRM Government that the Grand National Mosque was built at Old Kampala and even the Islamic University in Uganda with full support of the Government. Recently the Salaam Bank was established to operate according to Islamic practice.
She said there is no reason why the Muslim Community should not fully enjoy the banking services including access to Parish Development Model funds for household Wealth creation.

“We shall continue to urge the Muslim Community to embrace Government Programs using your rich UMSC structures that blossom from the Headquarters to grass root in registered Mosques country wide”she appealed.
She wished them a happy Eid El-Fitri celebration.
The ceremony was attended by Mufti Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje Professor Muhammadi Lubega Kisambira, the National Chairman of UMSC, Ambassadors and Members of the Diplomatic.
