Uganda President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is also the Commander-in-in Chief of Uganda’s armed forces, on Thursday (March 21) appointed his son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
Muhoozi now replaced Gen. Wilson Mbadi, who was appointed Minister of State for Trade and Cooperatives in the newest Cabinet reshuffle announced on Thursday 21, 2024.
Upon his appointment as new CDF, Muhoozi served as the presidential advisor in charge of special operations and is the chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a Group that describes itself as “non-partisan, non- denominational and non- sectarian”.
In the appointment, Museveni also appointed Lt. Gen. Charles Okidi the deputy CDF. Okidi replaced Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu, who was appointed special presidential advisor. Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Chief of Staff for Land Forces, Maj. Gen. Jack Bagonza Bakasumba, was appointed the Joint Chief of Staff. Bagonza replaced Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda, who was appointed a defence attaché.
