The Increase in the enrollment especially through UPE has significantly boosted primary school’s enrollment allowing more children from low income generating families to access education.
Following the introduction of UPE in 1997 gross enrollment in primary schools has increased from 2.5 million in 1996 to over 8.6m in 2023. / The Gender equality index has also improved from 0.88 in 1997 to .104 in 2021 reflecting our commitment of inclusive education.
“Government has increased funding in the education sector, with more classrooms constructed, and deployed more teachers. We have doubled the number of primary school teachers to increase from 81,564 1996 to 13,819 in 2023.
All these efforts underscore our dedication to provide quality education and building a bright future for our country and I urge all Uganda to join us at the Kololo Independence ground at the celebration for the International Educational day on the 20 March to come and celebrate the power of education and the honor the progress we have made together in the recent past.
