In anticipation of the upcoming 2026 general elections, the First Son and Chairman of the recently formed Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, urges the citizens of Uganda to refrain from electing corrupt individuals into positions of power.
“PLU encourages every Ugandan to fight corruption and abuse of public office. All these evils take away the resources that are meant to develop the country,” he noted.
Speaking during the Greater Masaka Baraza on March 15, 2024, Muhoozi said corruption is one of the greatest ills facing Uganda today.
“Public office means it belongs to Ugandans. Any one in public office is working for you. So, do not elect corrupt people,” he added.

Muhoozi’s call comes when the public is awash with the corruption accusations against the former Leaders of Opposition (LoP), Mathias Mpuuga, and Speaker of Parliament Anitah Among, among other Uganda Parliament officials.
Muhoozi also asked Ugandans not to elect people who will serve foreign interests and not Uganda’s interests.
“Elect people who will help the president develop the country, and those who are not going to be a problem to him,” he added.
PLU not political
He elaborated that PLU is simply a civic group aiming to rally Ugandans to carry out their patriotic responsibilities.
“This means mobilising Ugandans into loving their country to be good citizens, to have spirit of national service, to protect Uganda from foreign interference and domination, to assist vulnerable people in our communities, and to fight the wastage of resources and corruption,” he added.

He noted that PLU firmly believes that Uganda’s development is impossible without “these values.”
He stressed that patriotism plays a crucial role in empowering citizens to achieve progress.

“PLU is non-partisan, not denominational and not sectarian. We have people from every tribe, every race, religion and every political party. We don’t care about your political party, we just care whether you love Uganda or not,” Muhoozi noted.
Venture in commercial agriculture
He commended the people of Greater Masaka for their involvement in coffee farming, particularly in Bukomansimbi, Kalungu, and Kyotera districts.
He encouraged all farmers with suitable plots of land to follow the example of those who have excelled in coffee production.

He further expressed gratitude towards President Yoweri Museveni for his efforts in organizing farmers in nine villages around Kisozi farm in Gomba and Sembabule districts.
“He helped them get some agriculture-inputs and are good commercial farmers,” he added.
Muhoozi cited Rev. David Mugyenyi’s success in producing 140 bags of coffee each year, valued at shs 101 million, from his 20-acre farm.
Additionally, he mentioned James Kalanda, who, after receiving mango seedlings in 2016-2017, also now earns shs 46 million annually.
“This shows that farming is still a good way to get out of poverty if it is done well,” he added.
