Political tensions are high as the country moves closer to engaging in elective political activities as evidenced by several potential candidates making political pronouncements.
One of such high profile politicians is the Kampala Metropolitan affairs minister Hajjati Minsa Kabanda who has come out and revealed how she has political ambitions of replacing the Kampala Central legislator Muhammad Nsereko come 2026.
The minister made the shocking revelation over the weekend while addressing a mammoth crowd of the Muslim community during the Ramadan month welcome duwa at the Masjid Hidaya Kireka in Kira Municipality Wakiso district organized by the Noor Muslim Women Association captained by Hajjati Aisha Kironde.
The soft spoken minister who donated 1m/ towards logistics of the holy month, revealed that she had reportedly reached consensus with Muhammad Nsereko over a possible position of replacing him as the next NRM party candidate for the Kampala central seat 2026 parliamentary elections of which pronouncement sent out deafening cheers and ululations among the crowd who apparently supported the initiative.
‘Am humbled to inform you my friends the Muslim fraternity congregating here today during this Ramadan welcome duwa of which am proud to officiate as your chief guest that am willing to replace our good brother Muhammad Nsereko from his Kampala Central parliamentary seat come 2026 and I call for your support in this regard’ pleaded the minister.
‘The two of us have reached an amicable point that I will replace Nsereko who promised that he will not be returning to elective politics once his term ends soon’ noted Kabanda.
‘I was supposed to go to Katakwi for the international women’s day celebrations but when I got this invitation which is also celebrating women’s day as well as welcoming the holy month of Ramadan, I decided to come and join you’ Kabanda observed.
She congratulated the women of Masjid Hidaya Kireka for fostering unity among themselves as well as preaching messages of good discipline among their children and general households and urging husbands to be faithful, caring and good problem solvers as opposed to those that instigate domestic violence.
The minister encouraged the women to participate in projects such as the PDM where 100m/= is deposited at each parish across the country with the women having their clear cut percentage as well as the GROW project under the private sector foundation Uganda which was launched by the president at Katakwi.
‘Just come to my office and easily access such project funds given that you are well organized groups which have strategic interests in carrying out clean and transparent business ventures’.
Both the Masjid chairman Hajji Ssemwanga , Norman Kabogozza and the Association boss Kironde appealed to the people of good will to extend support to the Masjid such as food and drinks for the fasting locals in the area.
Ssemwanga I also call upon business communities not to use this holy month of Ramadhan and increase the price of commodities but have mercy to our brothers and sisters by reducing the prices especially on fruits.
Ramadhan as Holy Month
Ramadan is the ninth month, according to the Islamic calendar observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer, reflection and community. It is this month of Ramadan, that the holy book of the Quran was revealed to the prophet Muhammad.
Also fasting during Ramadan is also one of the five pillars of Islam and it’s believed that during this month the gates to heaven are open and the doors to hell are closed therefore Muslim use the holy month of Ramadhan to focus on their connection to God, reflect on their lives, and spend quality time with friends and family
