The City Sanitation workers yesterday gathered at City Hall in protest over delayed payments of their wages and attempts to conscript them into an Association against their will.
Addressing the demonstrating workers, the Lord Mayor stated that a great injustice is being occasioned on the workers by not only delaying their pay which is an entitlement, but also attempts at conscripting them in to an association against their will is a violation of their rights, adding that as head of the City Executive Committee, he proposed and Authority Council resolved to operationalize a reservation scheme in which the sanitation workers would legally operate under their registered SACCOs, independent of other association as a means to secure their employment but also provide welfare for the urban poor in the City.

The meeting however got chaotic when the Deputy Executive Director Eng. David Luyimbaazi informed the workers that for them to get paid, they ought to join the associations that were awarded tenders; Seven Hills and Kawempe Sacco, a matter the workers vehemently opposed causing the discussion to collapse.
