Thomas Tayebwa, the Deputy Speaker of Uganda Parliament, has emphasized the importance of the Anglican Church focusing on increasing investments in education in order to foster the future growth and development of the church.
“Build big churches, but build bigger schools-when you build bigger schools, they will produce products that will build much bigger churches,” he noted.

He placed the call while presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony of Saints, Andrew and Philip Cathedral in Mukono district, on February 25, 2024.
Tayebwa appreciated the church’s efforts in promoting access to education, specifically mentioning Uganda Christian University in Mukono, which is now known as a centre of excellence.
“Mukono is now known as a center of excellence. I visited the university-the beauty, the cleanliness, I am proud of you; thank you,” he added.
Tayebwa also emphasized the importance of church leaders motivating Christians to strive for success while remaining faithful to God.

Tayebwa emphasized the significance of work, expressing concern over certain churches that solely advocate prayer without emphasizing the importance of hard work.
He went on to questioned whether it would be possible to construct a cathedral solely through prayer.
He appreciated the Archbishop of Church of Uganda, Stephen Kazimba Mugalu for his role in unifying all religious leaders.
“Unity is important and religion should bring us together. Mugalu is a symbol of unity in Uganda,” Tayebwa said.
Kazimba urged the Christians to unite and provide their support towards the construction of a brand-new church building for Saints Andrew and Philip Cathedral.
He emphasized that the current 39-year-old facility is in need of shs6 billion for necessary renovations and upgrades.
“How many of you have built a Cathedral before. The Namirembe Cathedral was built when we were not born. Let us make history and build this cathedral,” he added.

He highlighted the significance of constructing the Cathedral, emphasizing that it has played a crucial role in shaping the careers of past notable bishops of the Church of Uganda, such as Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo and Alfred Tucker.
Additionally, he pointed out that the diocese is responsible for training numerous bishops, despite lacking a cathedral.
He expressed gratitude towards the Deputy Speaker for backing religious activities, noting that the Deputy Speaker consistently answers the call for support.
“He loves the church, he has supported several fundraising activities and the latest was the interior renovation of Namirembe Cathedral where we raised Shs1 billion,” said Mugalu
