At approximately 0700hrs, on February 20, 2024, Corporal Collins Andebo, clad in casual attire, discharged his AK-47 rifle, striking Peroni Atulinda while she was preparing to mount a motorcycle (boda boda) shattering her arm.
On suspicion that the victim was dead, Andebo proceeded to use the same firearm on himself, resulting in his death upon arrival at the casualty ward at Mulago Hospital.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, Andebo was a military officer attached to Makindye Military Police, while Atulinda was a civilian staff at Military Police.
Initial investigations show that the two individuals were previously in a relationship and had been living together in Lusaka Zone, Makindye 1, Makindye Division, before separating due to misunderstandings. Owoyesigyire mentioned that the officers at Katwe Police Station and the Military Police promptly responded to the incident and were able to transport the victim to Nsambya Hospital, where she was also declared deceased shortly after.
Owoyesigyire highlighted that the investigations confirmed that the pair had a long-standing history of relationship problems spanning around five years.
Additionally, he mentioned that the suspected murder weapon and 13 cartridges were found at the location.
He emphasized that the investigations are still in progress to gain a thorough understanding of the circumstance
