Over 70 Ugandan students to benefit from Iran Scholarship

The Islamic Republic of Iran has secured 70 scholarships to Ugandan students meant to study within Iranian Universities of Tairan. The students are expected to take up   science disciplines, technology, Business among others.

The development came last year in July 2023 when Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi visited Uganda and signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with President Yoweri Museveni and since then, the MOU has opened the doors for Uganda and strengthened the good relationship between the two Countries.

During the visit, the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi signed various MOU with Uganda President Museveni in areas of Trade, visa exemptions among Ugandans, agriculture, fisheries, animal cooperation, health, and livestock production.

In his message, Raisi also promised to set up the Iran House of Innovation and Technology in Uganda to construct technical and vocational training institutions that will aid in exchange of educational experiences, training and consultancy.

President Museveni expressed Uganda’s readiness to continue with the cooperation and the good relations that have existed since the Islamic revolution.
“We are always ready to cooperate with Iran and the best area of cooperation is trade. We can do a lot of trade together because Iran has got experiences that we don’t have. There are so other many areas of complementarity,” Museveni said during the visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi

Speaking while flagging off over 70 students who secured scholarship to study in Iran, at Head of National Chairperson Kyambogo today January 31, 2024,

 H.E Majid Saffar the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Uganda, said Iran considers educational collaboration with Uganda as one of the top priorities in the development of the bilateral relations

 He commended the Office of National Chairperson headed by Hajjat Hadijah Namayalo Uzeiye for using the best ways of selection and nominating students for the Iranian scholarship opportunity.

He noted that Iran has been under sanctions for the last 45 years but it has developed in different sectors including medical sciences, technology, innovation and education which have driven the economy to where it is now.

“As the Iranian government, they are ready to cooperate with the Ugandan government in areas of investment and exchange programs at different levels.” He spoke

He asked the students to be more productive than before and affirmed that Iran has black people in the southern part of the country.

Be good Ambassador

ONC Manager SPA/PA Hajjat Hadijah Namayalo Uzeiye implored students to exhibit good characters and represent Uganda in the best way possible.

“Your Uganda ‘s Ambassador to Iran live responsibly life while in Iran saying it is an opportunity for you to receive an additional education” said Namayalo

 She further applauded the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran for good relationships and aid Ugandans with scholarships.

Over 70 scholarships for Ugandan were secured

Abdollah Abbasi, the Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran applauded Uganda for maintaining a good relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“Iran wants to give maximum support to Uganda to strengthen its human capital, for developing the country, nothing is more valuable than educated and skilled citizens,” said Abbasi

 He noted the future and prosperity of Uganda necessarily requires the necessary infrastructure, including effective human capital, more importantly, Uganda needs a generation that is equipped with modern technologies and sciences.

“I am sure that Iranian universities with their experienced professors and the use of modern science and technology will provide you with excellent teaching” he noted.

He called upon studies during their stay in Iran to focus on improving their skills so that they can provide for their families in the future and be useful citizens for the country.

“The Republic of Iran has managed to secure scholarship for over 70 students, 20 female and 40 males to study in the Universities of Iran in different levels and fields of study, and by God’s grace, we plan to continue this process for the coming years.’’ Abbasi said

Student will study in Persian Gulf University and Ahlul Bayt International University Abbas noted

He applauded H.E Majid Saffar, the Ambassador of Iran to Uganda, Hajat Khadijah Namyalo, Dr. Jazari; Vice chancellor of Ahlul Bayt International University, Dr. Salehi; The deputy vice chancellor of the university Esther, Isa Katungulu, Maleki, for making the process possible

Students advise to know their mission why they are going to Iran

Philip Rugumayo, the Intelligent Office (IO) at ONC congratulated students and parents upon Iranian scholarship opportunities which doesn’t happen every day.

He rallied participants to make use of the opportunity by acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge using the Iranian based new technologies and sciences.

“In the quest for personal improvement, skills acquisition without values and enterprise is regrettable and informed students to define their goals in realizing their individual interests based on academic performance and productivity”

Parents speaks out

 Hajji Siraje Muwanga, one of the parents, thanked the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran for extending scholarships to Ugandans and prayed for the long life of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Uganda.
