Jonathan Mark Kabito 13 years of little known Elasto and Dora in Mukono district Nakisunga sub-county emerged as the star of his school with 7 aggregates at Elasto and Dora’s primary school.
“I didn’t know the results were out. I was just relaxing when my mother broke the news regarding my Primary Leaving Examinations” Kabito said.
I’m very happy I didn’t expect this; the setting of exams was tricky but God has changed it” Kabito said. Kabito spends his vacation helping his grandparents in gardens for cassava, maize and doing house chores intended to study Automobile Engineering.
Kabito is the son of Nanyange Hanifah and Ssekanabi Evans of Mukono.Elasto and Dora’s Nakaibale Martha scored 8, and despite being advised by the Invigilator to sit her exams this year because of illness from Malaria and Sinusitis.

Despite her resilience, determination as the illness she was able to complete her examinations “The invigilator prayed for me and asked me to go for medication but insisted on expecting a first grade. My parents supported me and I too worked hard. I didn’t want to disappoint them” Nakaibale said.
Nakaibale wants to join Seeta High school for her secondary school. She is a daughter of Ndegeya Nakyeyune and Ndegeya Henry George.
The head teacher appreciated the parents for entrusting them with the learners but also the pupils for working hard despite the COVID-19 interruptions.
The Minister of Education Janet Museveni while releasing the PLE result last week said arrangements should be made to evaluate learners who were being progressed to the next class before attaining the minimum knowledge and skills as evidence of learning,”

A total of 749,254 candidates from 15,859 centers (schools) registered for PLE in 2023 Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB).
Among the registered candidates included 69 are inmates from Upper Prison School, Luzira. Female candidates constituted 52%, while male candidates made up 48%.
The candidates were mainly from Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools constituting 79% totaling 501,619candidates,21% from non-UPE centers with 247,728 candidates and 2,580 were candidates with Special Needs.
“Headteachers and classroom teachers need to be thorough with what continuous assessment is supposed to help these children.It is a disservice to move a learner to the next level when you are a teacher or a headteacher very” Museveni said.
Museveni asked the directorate of education standards to work with the district education officers to ensure that capacity is built in our schools to utilize formative assessment because promoting a learner to the next class simply because the year has come to an end.

. She said “a negative development that absentee candidates of PLE has been reversed. In fact, the rate has come down to the lowest level compared to the previous five years”.She added “Nonetheless, 1.6%or 12,000 pupils who were absent remains a large number. When a child fails to show up for the end-of-cycle examination, it is a waste of that life, which has been spent for six to seven years. Government will also lose because a lot of resources will have been and family’s support to bring up these children
