The Entebbe Police Division, in Wakiso district has launched an investigation into an explosive device which was reportedly found at the Rolex Beach within the Botanical Gardens.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said the suspected device was reported today (January 23, 2024), at around 6pm which prompted the response led by the area commander.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the item is a non-spent ordnance buried underground for years, exposed due to soil erosion.
Owoyesigyire stressed that In the interest of public safety, meticulous inquiries were initiated, and the scene was thoroughly processed and documented. “Following the guidance of bomb experts, a controlled explosion was executed on-site, resulting in zero injuries or damages,” he said.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious items promptly, facilitating swift police response and ultimately saving lives.
