KAMPALA
A Pan African women body has commended President Yoweri Museveni for successfully hosting multiple key global level summits in Uganda saying he deserves credit.
The words of commendation were yesterday made by the secretary general of the Pan African Women’s Organization (PAWO) Grace Kabayo during an exclusive interview at her Kampala Kingdom offices.

Kabayo a renowned women human rights defender and activist who doubles as senior president advisor in charge of special duties (SPA/SD) said Ugandans must credit the president for successfully hosting the just concluded 120 nations Non-Aligned Movement [NAM] and the G77 China respectively whose anticipated resolutions may foster a new world economic order.
‘As women leaders under the PAWO, we would like to register and extend our sincere appreciation to the president for successfully hosting the NAM/G77 conferences which have just ended in Kampala and do look forward to new interstate member collaborations in sectors of economic development of the 6.6bn people of the movement’ noted Kabayo.

She pointed out that such a high-level gathering brings into the country enormous economic benefits which can translate into wealth creation to both the citizens and government respectively.
Kabayo observed that it took several behind the scenes lobbying by the government to convince the world leaders to allow Uganda to host these conferences which development signifies that Uganda was a democratic and secure country with the political credit going to our President who commands respect among his counterpart global leaders.
“We call upon all citizens to rally behind the NRM government by supporting its economic empowerment programs like PDM, Emyooga, youth livelihood and women entrepreneurship programs among others which are geared towards fighting poverty at both household and among communities respectively.

She noted that PAWO which was born way back in 1948 but officially recognized in 1962 in the United Republic of Tanzania by Mwalimu Juluis Kambarage Nyerere still remains a strong body of 54 countries bringing together scores of highly respected women of substance cutting across all spheres of professions.
She revealed that PAWO had been and still remains a strong and active movement of dynamic women who have used the body’s spaces and structures to fight for the democratic rights of women such that their voices are heard by the respective member state governments a space Uganda has e effectively used to nurture hundreds of high Caliber women leaders currently serving in key positions.

Kabayo underscored the importance of the NRM government for bringing on board women to freely participate in decision making bodies of the government and those delegates had reportedly learnt that much as there was divergent political issues about the country, they cannot override the bigger picture of peace, economic development and democracy of is being enjoyed by all citizens.
She separately commended the first lady Janet Kataha Museveni for hosting the league of first ladies on the sidelines of the NAM summit of which development exposed the guests to the positively enriched insights of the women movement among the NAM member states.

Kabayo said the government has deliberately offered jobs to hundreds of distinguished women who are effectively part of the decision making organ of the government and among them include the first lady, the Minister of Education and spots, Jesca Alupo vice president, Anit Annet Among Speaker of Parliament , Robinah Nabbanja , the Prime minister, Rukia Nakadama, the third Prime Minister and Ruth Nankabirwa the energy minister,
Others Dr Ruth Acheng, the health minister, Dr. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, the First deputy prime minister and minister for East African community affairs, Babirye Babalanda, the minister for presidency and not forgetting the NAM/G77 national organizing committee chairperson Lucy Nakyobe among others.
