Two individuals have been handed a 30-year prison sentence for the illegal possession of firearms, aggravated robbery, and attempted murder.
The Mountain Division Court Martial, led by Lt Col George Achaya, delivered the verdict after finding them guilty of all three charges.
The convicted individuals, Peter Basara (26) and Gideon Mugisa (31), both reside in Makindu village, Butungama Sub- County, Ntoroko district.
Despite their denial of the charges, the court learned that on the night of September 19th, 2022, at approximately 11:00 pm, the duo shot and injured Timothy Mutegeki while also robbing him of Uganda Shillings 2,800,000.
Major Bilal Katamba, the Public Information Officer of UPDF Mountain Division/Operation Shujaa, emphasized that the prosecution presented compelling evidence that implicated the defendants, along with the testimony of five eyewitnesses who positively identified them during an identification parade.
Consequently, the two individuals will concurrently serve prison terms of seven years, 20 years, and 30 years for the offenses of unlawful possession of firearms, attempted murder, and aggravated robbery, respectively, at Katojo Government Prison.
