An old student of Namilyango College, Anthony Natifa has contributed Shs. 500m towards the strategic projects of his former school under Dr. Peregrine Kibuuka endowment fund.
In an interview with East African Gazette at his residency in Muyenga, Natifa said he has donated Shs. 500m towards the support of the Peregrine Kibuuka Endowment fund.
The strategic fund which aims to raise Shs.3.5bn was launched last year by the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among when the college celebrated 121 years of its existence where she contributed Shs 50m as his husband Eng. Moses Magogo, an old boy donated shs.10m among others.
The fund which was set up by old students, parents and friends of the college aims at funding key projects include paying school fees and welfare bills for financially disadvantaged bright students in the college and those continuing students who might fail to pay fees due to unforeseen loss of parents or guardians who had been incharge of paying fees..
‘Am humbled to make my donation of 500m/= towards Peregrine Kibuuka endowment fund in memory of the former headmaster late Dr. Peregrine Kibuuka whose administration paid for my school fees and welfare logistics bills for six years I spent at Namilyango.College between 1997 to 2002’” he noted.
Natifa who is a professional pharmacist by training but turned successful businessman, appealed to alumni from all traditional schools built in 1950s across the country to give back to schools which have nurtured them into important citizens of the current generation.
“I challenge the entire alumni fraternity of all traditional schools to use their individual new year resolution to give back to their former schools of which the funding will support to rehabilitate the schools’ infrastructure bearing in mind the role played by schools to turn us into useful distinguished citizens of this country” he said.
He commended both the College Board of Trustees led by Eng. Kato Kayizzi and the reigning headmaster Mpuuga Constantine Sajabi with the entire College Board for continuous leadership and guidance that have kept Namilyango College to remain a prestigious school which has stood the test of time by educating citizens who are currently serving in different leadership capacities.
Both Eng.Kayizzi and Mpuuga thanked Natifa for setting a historical pace for the rest of former students to borrow a leaf by vested interests in a fund that offer educational opportunities to students as well as help fix the college critical lined up projects for the good of the college
