The President of Tanzania president Samia Suluhu Hassan has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), marking her third honorary degree in one year.
She received the degree in recognition of her outstanding work in enhancing tourism in the area and earlier in the year she had received a degree from India.
Tanzania’s president received the prestigious Tourism Management and market degree from the University of Zanzibar on 18 December.
The Zanzibar’s current president, Hussein Mwinyi conferred her doctorate. The Zanzibar’s current president, Hussein Mwinyi, commended the University for ensuring that 9% more students graduated this year than they did in 2022.
This third degree in a year; her first came from the University of Dar es Salaam, where she was awarded a doctorate for her work in gender equality and governance. The degree arrived about the same time the previous year.

She became the first woman to get a doctorate from Jawaharlal Nehru University of India in October 2023 for her efforts in bolstering the economic ties between Tanzania and India.
President Samia expressed gratitude and said “I receive this award for all Tanzanians who continue to give me support and cooperation.”
Samia added “I also thank the former president Amani Abeid Karume, who enabled me to bring about the tourism reform in Zanzibar, so I am standing here because of his support.”
President Suluhu asserted that its instability had led to a significant exodus of investors who sought refuge in Tanzania’s stable economic climate.
President Suluhu confidently proclaimed Tanzania as a magnet for investors, witnessing an unprecedented influx of businesses that promised to reshape the nation’s economy.
President Suluhu asserted Tanzania’s economic superiority within the East African Community (EAC) compared to that of its foreign counterparts grappling with economic challenges.
