As the country continues getting challenges emanating from the clandestine importation of various assortments of products into the local market spaces, Ugandans have been advised to always monitor their health status and stop eating some food products that may shelf lifespan.
“Avoid consuming wrong products which may contradict with their religious, cultural and social lifestyles” said Hajjati Safina Namaganda, the General Manager Uganda Halal Bureau (UHB)
Namaganda made the call while flagging off 2023 annual Muslim Student Association of Uganda (MSAU) Run which aims at raising funds to support vulnerable students’ academic programs and projects for the common good of the body.

The 2023 (MSAU) Run, that was celebrated under theme “Run to Create a Fund for students’ activities” attracted hundreds of Muslim students drawn from various Universities, colleges and secondary schools across the country and was concurrently held across the four Muslim regions of the country with the main national event being at Makerere University Mosque.
She advised the runners that it was important that all citizens irrespective of religious, cultural or social status individually got concerned about the health status of the various products they consume like foods, drinks, cosmetics among others which comes from animals and plants respectively.
‘As we meet here today at Makerere University Mosque grounds for this great MSAU run 2023, each one of us individually need to take time and critically get concerned about the contents of products which are clandestinely imported into the country’s market spaces just to ensure that they do not contradict with their respective religious, cultural or social beliefs’ noted Namaganda.
She pointed out that as a bureau their mandate was to ensure that they work with the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and other stakeholders in ensuring that products imported here do meet the globally acceptable Halal manufacture certification standards given that some sections of society like the Muslim fraternity are sensitive about certain items like pork, alcoholic products among others.

She clarified that it was not only the Muslim community which benefited from the Halal certified products but all sections of positive thinking and reasoning communities because Halal products are healthy and hygienic for the consumers.

The speaker and secretary to the governing council of MSAUI Musa Kayondo congratulated the runners across the country for choosing to raise funds through being part of the runners’ fraternity saying their relentless efforts are not in vain but Allah the most merciful and provider of wisdom and wealth shall empower them to earn more in future.

He said the funds shall go a long way in supporting the various lined up Association programs and activities that aim to empower the Muslim youth through provision of quality education opportunities among others.
Kayondo explained that the Association started way back in the 1960s with the cardinal aim of clearing out the ardent claim that Muslims are not educated.
Those elite Muslim brothers and sisters of the older days ensured that they devise means to raise funds to support bright but financially challenged students trying to join University which decision has seen scores of Muslim students studying and becoming high value citizens serving in key offices of national and global responsibility.

He challenged the Muslim students across the country to effectively join the Association from their respective school levels and be part of this great movement which cherishes and pushes the higher education agenda of vulnerable students.
The chairman national organizing committee Musa Mubiru commended all the citizens and companies that responded to their call by joining them in the run which act did not only help create awareness about the Association mission and objectives, but opened up new spaces for more students to join and be part of the fraternity who cherish the efforts and principal values of the Association

Other sponsors included IUIU, Qibla among others who pulled together resources that contributed to the successful hosting of this national program.
