Uganda Journalist Associations (UJA) demands for un conditional release of Arnold Musamali, the Chief Executive Officer of Free man News, an online publication based in Uganda’s Capital Kampala.

Musamali popularly known as Freeman, was arrested on Thursday by plain cloth security officers from his home in Nabumali in Mbale and is currently being detained at Mbale Central Police Station (CPS)

“We call for immediate release of Musamali because he has been kept to police custody for over 48 hours, keeping a citizen including a journalist without producing him in Court, is a violation of 48-hour rule of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda” said Emmanuel Kirunda, the UJA Secretary General

Speaking to East African Gazette on phone Kirunda, said as a Journalist body, they are deeply concerned with the persistent arrest and detention of Journalists while in their lines of duty.

“No one is above the law, if Musamali committed an offence, he should be produced to court of law than detaining him” said Kirunda

He noted that if   Musamali is noted released today, Sunday or Monday, “We are going mobilize Journalists and storm the police station to make sure he is released

he was arrested and charged with computer misuse and cyber harassment

In our latest News, Masamali has been released this evening
