The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party has commended the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi for taking lead in the fight against HIV/AIDS, Cancer and Sickle cell.
Every year, through the Kabaka Birthday Run, millions of Ugandans turn up in different districts to celebrate the life of Kabaka Ronald Mutebi II as they raise awareness and strengthen the efforts to fight against HIV/ AIDS epidemic

The move is aimed at reducing public health challenges like ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2030, fistula, cancer and sickle cell
Richard Todwong, NRM Secretary General made the remarks today October 25, 2023 as he paid a courtesy visit to the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga at his office in Bulange, Mengo.
“As NRM, we are grateful to you for your deliberate efforts in transforming the lives of the ordinary people through projects in agriculture like coffee growing, education, and health,” Todwong said.

He also applauded the Kabaka for uniting all people in the Kingdom, irrespective of their political affiliation. “I am humbled by your gesture of welcoming and consolidating our people across all political divides and religions” He noted.
He added that “we are in the public domain to serve the interests of the country. Culture institutions and government are the cooking stones which must work together to benefit the ordinary people”
He also extended to the Kabaka greetings of the NRM Chairman President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the leadership of the party and those of the Acholi Paramount Chief, Rwot David Onen Acana II.

In his speech, Charles Peter Mayiga, welcomed the NRM SG Todwong and pledged his full support in collaborating with the government to implement policies that are in the interest of those living in poverty.
“The NRM is of course the party in power, and the government implements the programs of the party in power. There are certain aspects of programs like skilling the youth because everybody must be skilled in order to survive,” Katikkiro said.
He added, “I am sure if they (government) hear of programs we have in the Kingdom, they should work with us to enhance those programs that uplift the status of our people.”

Katikkiro underscored the Kingdom’s commitment is at promoting the health of all citizens and therefore will be glad to team up with the government in the health line.
“We work with the government on HIV prevention where Kabaka is the goodwill Ambassador appointed by the UNAID to fight the spread of HIV and eliminate it by 2030.” he noted.The meeting was also attended by Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, the Kingdom’s Minister of Information and David Ntege, the Clerk of the Buganda Lukiiko.
