Kampala-Lagos: After a series engagement between the two countries, Ugandans and Nigerians now have a reason to smile after Uganda Airlines opened a direct route from Entebbe International Airport, to Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city.
The airline will be flying to Lagos every Sunday, Monday and Thursday, a direct flight from Entebbe International Airport to Nigeria’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The flight will connect the two countries for the first time in history of the Country

The launch of the inaugural flight was made yesterday October 19,2023 and the first flight from Entebbe to Lagos was skillfully led by Uganda Airlines’ Captain Isaac Ogoyi,
In a press statement issued by the airline, it explained that the inaugural flight came after it secured approvals from aviation authorities in Uganda and Nigeria.
“Uganda Airlines will operate flights to Nigeria three times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays, using its state-of-the-art 258-seat Airbus A330-800neo aircraft,” added.

The Uganda Airlines boss, Jenifer Bamuturaki, said this is intended to ease connectivity between the two countries and other destinations.
This comes at a time when the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda allow the airline to have direct flights between the two states.

Lagos is now the 13th approved destination for Uganda Airlines. Other destinations include Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro, Mombasa, Juba, Bujumbura, Kinshasa, Dubai, Mogadishu or Johannesburg and Mumba
“Nigeria is Africa’s largest economy while Uganda’s central location on the continent makes it the ideal connection hub between East, West, North and Southern Africa,” Bamuturaki noted.
He stressed that the direct flights will save time for all those who may wish to travel onward where the airline operates now.

Uganda Airlines started offering commercial flights in August 2019 after 20 years of inactivity. The aircraft has so far succeeded in acquiring landing rights in 12 different destinations.
