As the East African Trade and investment protocol spaces open up further especially focusing on the power and electrical sector which drives economic development agenda of the region, there is glaring evidence that stiff competition is on the rise which act feeds into the desire for the manufacture and subsequent delivery of high-quality products on the market consumed by the over 300 million East Africans.

And as result Steema Transformers and Electricals [U] Ltd is based in Namanve industrial park in Mukono district and deals in the manufacture, distribution and repairer of high-quality power transformers and accompanying electrical appliances reportedly hit the Ugandan manufacturing market in 2019
It has also strategically grown and expanded to cover neighboring EAC countries including Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda and Kenya respectively.
The new development came to light yesterday during a visit by East African Gazette to their company’s stall at the ongoing Uganda International Trade fair [UGITF] at Lugogo where the company was spotted sensitizing a troupe of students from Hillside high school Mityana about the basic functions of transformers and related electrical appliances.

The company marketing manager Sharon Namae explained that having joined the Ugandan manufacturing market in 2019, they started manufacturing transformers but unfortunately the Covid-19 pandemic forced them to shut down until they resumed operations in 2021 and have since expanded to deliver consignments of transformers to the region.
We have been able to successfully dispatch consignments of high-quality transformers and accompanying electrical appliances to DR Congo which secured 50 pieces, South Sudan bagged 40, Kenya got 20 pieces while Uganda has received over 600 pieces of the products’ noted Sharon adding that they have also been involved in projects such as construction of power lines enabling the government’s rural electrification project to take root.

She pointed out that they managed to install a 33KV power line at Kabana Investments Ltd at Namawojolo in Mukono district alongside installing a transformer of 800KV as well as vacuum circuit breaker and metering units, while Kakande ministries got an 11KV with a 1250KV transformer.
Kyaza near Kitalya in Wakiso district installed a 33KV line with 12 transformers which is a deliberate strategy of extending power to the rural population to boost small holder manufacturers.
She revealed how they would soon launch their air brake switch system which is used to stabilize high voltage power by helping to control the risk of accidental power fluctuations which had led to destruction of many transformers leading to loss of machinery.
‘The system to be launched in December shall help bring down incidents of clients losing entire machinery due to high voltage power line transmission instability or defaults which damages or burns equipment thus leading to gross losses.
She cited an example of a Fine Spinners factory whose fire outbreak destroyed over six of their transformers due to lack of proper protection systems.
