The authorities in Busoga North Policing region are currently in pursuit of two drivers involved in a fatal accident at Nawansega cell, Nawansega Ward, Bukova Town council in Luuka District.
The unfortunate event led to the passing of Gladys Aliyinza, spouse of Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Press Secretary to the President of Uganda, Kaguta Yoweri Museveni, as well as Yusuf Biita, the LC II vice chairman for Kiriimwa Parish, Bukomwa Subcounty in Luuka District on June 27, 2024.
Aliyinza, who was 34 years old, had aspirations of running for the Luuka District Woman MP seat in the upcoming 2026 elections.
The collision occurred around 4:30pm when Aliyinza and Biita were traveling in a silver-grey Isuzu double cabin with registration number UG 4654C, which collided head-on with a sugarcane-loaded lorry with registration number UAU 073G.

The area spokesperson, Micheal Kasadha said the drivers of both vehicles are currently missing, and efforts are being made to locate and apprehend them for further questioning.
Initial reports suggest that the collision took place on a road section with a slight bend, possibly contributing to the accident. Biita passed away at the scene, while Aliyinza succumbed to her injuries on the way to Musana Hospital in Kaliro District. Biita’s body was taken to Kiyunga Health Centre IV for a postmortem, and Aliyinza’s remains were transported to Musana Community Hospital.
