Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, on April 24 21024 has left the country for medical treatment in India.

He has been nursing an excruciating upper limb and back pain for the past two months, and despite receiving treatment at Nakasero and Nairobi Hospitals the relief has been minimal.
Upon consulting with physicians from these hospitals and Mulago National Referral Hospital, it was advised that he undergoes specialized treatment.
With the approval of the Uganda Medical Board, he has been referred to India.
The director general of health services Dr. Henry Mwebasa in a letter to Rashabh Kedia and Paul Verinder Singh consultant neurosurgeons at Medanta Med clinic Cybercity, New Delhi in India dated 16 April 2024 noted that Lukwago had been cleared to travel with one attendant, his brother and KCCA had committed to meet the costs related to the travel, treatment and stay while in India.
Lukwago was diagnosed with Cervical Spine C6-7, disc prolapse with C6 left foraminal stenosis and acute radiculopathy over two months ago.

Dr.Mwebasa further informed the hospital that Dr. Norbert Orwoth an orthopedic and spine surgeon at Mulago National Referral Hospital had been referred to the facility for anterior cervical decompression due to limited in country operative capacity at the moment
” He will travel with one attendant, his brother and KCCA has committed to meet the costs related to his travel, treatment and stay in India, ” Mwebasa said.
